Named for Bikram Choudhury, the Indian Yogi who originally developed this exhilarating workout, Bikram Yoga is comprised of twenty-six “ASANA” (body postures) and two breathing exercises.

For years, though I had enjoyed various forms of yoga, it was more recreational than a way of life. For me, exercise had to be physical and high-intensity, otherwise, what was the point? As a marathon enthusiast, I finished five marathons over a decade, with intense cross-country cycling. This intensity had also taken place in my professional life. I have been a Police Officer, and then a Lawyer for over 20 years and loved both for their intensity. All of these were different parts of my journey.
In 2013, all of my paths led me to Los Angeles and the Bikram Yoga teacher training. Spending nine weeks immersed in Bikram Yoga and studying with teachers such as Yoga Masters Bikram and Rajashree Choudhury and their staff of senior teachers helped me crystalize my goals. Among these goals was to bring Bikram Yoga to Jamaica, my home. To that end, I studied and taught at studios in Miami, New Haven, and Atlanta. Learning both the teaching and the leadership styles of the different studios was an amazing experience. Welcome to Bikram Yoga Jamaica!
Join her at a special "Reggae Yoga" class in New York on 11 March, 2017 at Bikram Yoga New York. The class will feature a combination of music and minimal dialogue designed to guide you through the postures, but not distract from the playlist.

What is Bikram Yoga?
Bikram’s beginning yoga class is a series of 26 demanding postures completed twice in a heated room for 90 minutes. Classes are suited for all ages and levels of ability. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints stimulating the organs, glands and nerves to move fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of the body. With regular practice, the Bikram Yoga system will improve health, increase energy, help prevent illness and injury and limit the effects of aging. As a physical challenge, the Bikram yoga method will change the body’s shape, developing muscle tone and losing inches.
As a mental challenge, this system combines the skills of concentration, patience and self-control to improve mental clarity and reduce stress.
The room is intentionally heated to approximately 105-110 degrees Fahrenheit to protect the muscles for safe deep stretches. The heat helps to detoxify the body by opening pores in the skin to flush out toxins. The heat increases the heart rate for a better cardiovascular work-out, helps to improve strength by putting muscle tissue in its optimal state, and softens collagen around the joints for more freedom of movement.
